Build the company profile

Your permissions, services, client categories and business activities shape your regulatory position. The company profile gives those facts a structured home.

Questions distinguish recorded answers from facts that still need confirmation. Some inputs depend on an event; others require specialist judgement or need to be recalculated from underlying facts.

  • Record the facts. Build the profile around the activities and characteristics of the firm.
  • Keep uncertainty visible. An unanswered question is not treated as a negative answer.
  • Review changes in context. A changed profile may affect the assessment that relies on it.
A saved answer is a first step.

Confirming a profile fact and refreshing the applicability assessment are separate steps. The assessment needs to reflect the profile version you intend to use.

Build context that reflects the firm

Permissions alone do not describe everything a firm does. Services, client categories and business activities add the context needed to examine regulatory requirements. A structured profile brings these facts together so they can be considered consistently.

Start with the information available about the firm, then review the recorded answers against the activities you intend the profile to represent. Distinguish an authorised activity from an activity actually carried out where the question requires that distinction.

The aim is a usable description of the firm, not simply a completed questionnaire. An answer should make sense in the context of the question and the supporting information used to reach it.

Keep unanswered questions meaningful

A missing answer can mean several different things. Information may not yet be available, the answer may depend on a future event, or a question may require specialist judgement. Treating all of these as “no” would hide the issue rather than resolve it.

Use the question wording and answer options to establish what fact is being requested. Identify the material or confirmation needed to answer it, and leave uncertainty visible until that work is complete. A proposal from an AI conversation should be reviewed before it becomes a confirmed profile fact.

Review the profile when the business changes

A change in services, client categories or business activities is a reason to revisit the relevant profile answers. Consider which facts have changed, what supports the revised position and which requirements may depend on those facts.

After confirming a change through the OS workflow, refresh applicability against the intended profile version. Saving an answer and reassessing its implications are separate steps. This helps keep the regulatory picture aligned with the firm you are reviewing.
